 Causative Verbs

Definition

A causative verb  shows that a person causes another person to do something or causes something to happen.

 Example:

She made me apologize.( Cause someone else) She compelled me to apologize .

Or in simple words:

In causative verb we don't perform an action directly,we get it done that action  indirectly by some one else.

Example:

He got his car repaired.

I made them understand yesterday.

They got the room painted.

She had her shoes polished.

I had my room cleaned.

Main reasons for using causative verbs

To show responsibility, not direct action

The subject does not perform the action himself but makes, gets, has, or lets someone else do it.

Example:

The new teacher made the students revise the lesson.

(The teacher did not revise; the students did.)

To express authority, permission, or influence

Causative verbs explain how power, permission, or influence is used.

Example:

The manager let the staff leave early.

To talk about services done by others

We use causative verbs when work is done by professionals for us.

Example:

I had my car repaired.

(A mechanic repaired it, not me.)

To avoid unnecessary details

Causative verbs help make sentences concise by focusing on the result, not the doer.

Example:

She got her house painted.( By whom ? It is not necessary to show the name of a person who painted the house)
