 THE PRESENT INDEFNITE TENSE

Present Indefinite/Simple Tense is formed:

     Subject + Base form of the verb +object+.

·         She plays hide and seek.                        (Generally)

·         He recites the holy Quran daily.            (Routine)

·         The sun rises in the East.                          (Universal Fact/Truth)

·         Hindoos cremate their dead bodies.       (Universal fact)

·         I work in a factory.                                    (Work on regular basis)

·         She bites her nails.                                   (Habit)

·         The match starts at 5.00 pm                  ( Scheduled action/ Time table )

 

POSTIVE (Affirmative)    Subject + base form of the verb +object+ .

 

NEGATIVE  :   Subject +Helping Verb Do/Does+ Not + base form of the verb+ object+.

 

Interrogative:  Helping Verb Do/Does + subject + base form of the verb Object +?

Note  :

*If the Subject of the sentence is   He, she, It , (singular Name)  we add  s, es or ies with Main verb.

* If the Subject of the sentence is They, we You, I ( Plural names ) we do not add s, es or ies with main verb.

 

·         Verbs finished with ‘e’ like use,write   we add only s

·         Verbs finished with o, ss,ch,sh,X or z  we add es

·         Verb finished with y ( try , cry,fry or fly ) y is changed into ies

    If before Y a vowel comes we do not change y into ies.  e.g ( She plays at cards.)

 

 

 

THE PRESENT INDEFINITE TENSES  USES

The PRESENT INDEFINITE  TENSE has many uses:

·         An Action that occurs/ happens in the present time.

 

These actions include Habitual / routine/repeated/scheduled actions. (regular basis )

e.g.:   Asad works in a factory.

           She visits her sis weekly.

 

·          Present indefinite expresses Time table:

e.g.   The drama starts at 10 p.m daily.

          Doctor arrives at 6.00.

 

·           General Statement:

e.g.   She cleans the room.

          People enjoy coffee in winters.

 

·            Present Indefinite expresses someone’s habit:

e g : while watching T.V she sleeps .

        He talks a lot about her family.

 

·          This Tense expresses Universal fact/ Truth   ( facts stand true all the time:

e.g .    Muslims bury their dead bodies.

            Stars shine at night.
