Compound sentence,complex and compound complex sentences,examples,use and explanation

 Simple Sentence Structure

In previous lecture we learnt sentence and it's simple kinds.

Now we learn types of a sentence .

1.Simple sentence 

A simple sentence consists of one independent clause.which gives a complete thought 

 (An independent clause contains a subject and verb and expresses a complete thought.)

1. He likes cake.

2.i helped him.

3.our team lost the final.

Here every sentence gives complete and clear meaning and is not poor of any other part of a sentence for it's completion .

.Compound Sentence 

A compound sentence is the combination of two (or more) independent clauses joined by a conjunction or semicolon. e g,

I like Cake  and Maria likes pizza 

Sara went to work but we went on shopping 

Our team lost the final so,we returned the same night .

note: compound sentences are formed with the help of co ordinating conjunctions.


Complex Sentence 

A complex sentence consists of an independent clause with a dependent clause. 

 Note: a dependent clause starts with a subordinating conjunction or a relative pronoun, and contains a subject and verb, but does not express a complete thought.

e.g,

We missed the party because our car broke down in the way 

My kid sister gets  angry when she is teased.

Do you know the doctor who treats for heppilepcy?

Note:The following common subordinating conjunctions are used when we make

Complex sentences.

 Because, before, how, if, once, since, that, though,  until, when, where, whether,  after,as,till,than,while.


Compound-Complex Sentence 

A compound-complex sentence consists of at least two independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.


It is the combination of a compound sentence and a complex sentence.

Structure

Independent clause + Independent clause + Dependent clause

or

Dependent clause + Independent clause + Independent clause

e g:

I finished my homework, and I went outside because the weather was pleasant.

  I finished my work.     Independent clause

I went outside.               Independent clause   

because the weather was pleasant.    Dependent clause.


He wanted to help the poor, but he had no money when he lost his job.

Independent clauses:

He wanted to help the poor.        Independent clause

he had no money.                          Independent clause

when he lost his job.                     Dependent clause
